Staying home for the holidays was AWESOME! As much as we missed family - we made up for with friends and activities together. Kenny was blessed - which brought Patrick's parents - always a treat! We enacted some of our own family traditions and loved teaching Payson all of the magic of presents, santa, jingle bells - as well as stories of Christ and his birth. Such a fun month!

Summer is so so hot here - months of highs over 100F - ugh

We have done a LOT of swimming.

Got this idea from my sister-in-law - cards, smores, "tent" lantern, nature movie "Planet Earth" made for a fun night!

Totally nasty job - toilet clog - bless Patrick for being brave enough to snake the toilet twice! P.S. baby wipes may look like they flush, but they don't get too far...

I love it when Payson breaks out into song -we get a lot of comments in stores ;)

Such a FUN birthday party for Taylor Hoenes & Jon Jensen - way to go Kali & Christa for putting it together! Can't wait for the next dodgeball tourney - I will NOT be pregnant, and you'll all be sorry then ;)

Who knew I married such a great Dad? I want my boys to be just like him! Well, maybe taller.... ha ha, don't tell Patrick I said that ;)

Patrick also got a drill - but calls that a gift for me as it will be used for all my "honey-do's".

But I think it makes him real man, which Payson needs to look up to. And Payson LOVES the drill and is always asking to drill into the walls!

Thanks to his super nerdy soldering iron, Patrick fixed my bluetooth exercise headphones - what a man!

Patrick got his golf clubs on his birthday when we were dating, the next year we were married and I got golf clubs for his birthday (his idea). I decided to continue the tradition this year by getting Payson some real clubs so he can really do something at the driving range and the wee Par 3 course nearby.

It's sooooo nice having time to play with Payson on Saturday's now!

Lately...

Payson asked for his toes to be painted too - I chose a manly blue... Patrick was NOT happy! Naptime isn't going so great lately, Payson will sometimes give in after playing and/or crying in his locked room on the floor.

I am so over potty training, but "underpants" are way too exciting, especially being able to flush & wipe, repeatedly...grrrr.... Nothing like waking up to my naked boy handing me a "fresh diaper" as he has already thrown away his night time one and gone poo poo in the toilet (his wiping leaves much to be assisted w/ before climbing into bed!)

Something Payson will help cook AND eat - cookie dough! Computer time in underpants - woo hoo!

Payson woke me up one morning having spelled his favorite word - and very excited to show me - "ZOO spells zoo - see Mommy?"

This pic of me (taken courtesy of Payson -not too bad eh?) kind of shows my blonde highlights I just did. Never have I attempted to bleach my hair until now. I still think I look better brunette, but it is fun to try something new!

He's always gone straight for the knives - and now he insists on sharpening them himself - ah!!

Well, I was ready for another one the day Payson was born! You never know when a bundle of joy will be coming your way, but the stork finally dropped this picture off to let me know that there is the sweetest little heart beating away in my tummy. Sept 29th seems FOREVER away, especially since I have morning sickness this time- ugh! It's awful, and I don't think I even have it that bad! (Please no comments about horror morning sickness or labor or miscarriage stories - so NOT what I need right now!)

I was "warming up" my voice to sing in sacrament meeting on the way to church when I catch Payson's eye in the mirror. He has a sly grin and says "Mommy Crazy" - so funny & cute! (and true...) This kid is starting to say the darndest things.

We went to Las Vegas and shared a condo with my sister Melinda (and Ryan & 4 boys). It was a blast! Lots of adventures and lots of Cartoon Network (ALL day everyday). We are so blessed and have SO many things to be thankful for, including; the cutest little guy, Patrick's good job, so many great friends, and tons of family to visit whenever time & means allow!

Payson got the hang of trick-or-treating after a couple houses (he was trying to give them candy at first!) and looked so cute in his Bam Bam outfit. We were the Rubble family from The Flinstones cartoon (thanks to Shar for the costumes!) - and we had a lot of opportunites to wear them. My ballet class, a murder mystery party, halloween bbq, storytime, and of course trick-or-treating!

Patrick's parents were here the same weekend. It is always so good to see them - not just because they take us out to eat ;) Patrick's mother always says she feels for me when she realizes how much Patrick is like his Dad! Truly, we look up to them because they are great examples of hard work & love & fun!

Celebrating Summer & the 4th of July

Story: Payson brings me Patrick's shorts repeating "ba-aball ors" -very excitedly. I ask him if he wants to wear Daddy's basketball shorts. "Yes" Being the resourceful and creative mom, I use a hair elastic to tie (the majority) of the shorts together so they will stay on. Then runs to the hoop on our fridge to play some ball. He looked so funny, and was so excited!

Payson & Patrick play on the calculator... NERDS!

4th of July french toast - or should I say freedom toast?? (I realize these look pretty unappetizing, but they were festive and delicious, and we were quite proud of our flags!)

Patrick came up with a great 4th of July activity: a visit to the Pima Air & Space Museum. We gained a lot of respect to the technology that has developed in flight, and the soldiers who flew.

Payson decides to set the table & get himself some cereal. (Note he chose a goblet, and used all 4 wooden salad bowls.)

Summer Projects: Patrick loves having time to do projects with his summer off from school. Payson LOVES using tools, he even got a zap when he ran over to the one uncovered electric socket and stuck the screw driver in. (He's quick! -not that it bothered him, he tried to continue....)

Here's a look at the best little son a Dad could ask for during the month of Father's day and his birthday.

BUBBLES!!

Patrick is 27!! For those of you not nerdy enough to know, the cake is a "circuit board" with the number "27" written out in binary code. (I know, what a woman!) I always tell my wonderful man that he's a "sheek geek" -and I wouldn't have him any other way! I love that I get to spend forever with him! He's so fun, encouraging, and good! This engineer doesn't go anywhere without his pocket pc, or my heart.

Payson points out "Jesus" all the time now, and pretty much and picture at church is a picture of Him. I usually turn on "Music & the Spoken Word" Sunday morning as we get ready for church, but when Payson yelled out "Jesus" (seeing the Christus on lds.org) I got an idea to look for pictures of Jesus on YouTube. Of course, someone, somewhere has hymns to pictures of Jesus! (Who takes the time to do stuff like that? I sure appreciate it!) So this was our morning:

Yesterday, when getting Payson ready for swimming, I decided to teach Payson how to flex his muscles. (As you can see, his manly chest inspired this...) He picks up on things FAST! (BTW that picture in the back is where the whole "Jesus" thing started. Having church pictures around really is a great way to teach your child the gospel. They observe everything, and ask questions about what they see -teaching opportunities!! I need to get a temple picture or something for Payson's room, he spends a LOT of time in his crib -wish I slept that much!)

Yes, this is sideways, my bad. And don't watch the whole thing. I just wanted to show Payson's new FAVORITE thing. Jumping into the swimming pool with his floaties -let's just say, it doesn't go over well when Mommy says it is time to go home & say "bubye" to "wawa".

Payson loves his toilet, and will sit on it, and "flush" it (makes a water noise than says "all done"). Here he is NOT sitting...grrr... but pointing out all the characters. Tigger is his favorite, when he plays with his stuffed talking Tigger, he "tickles" it and mimicks the "whoo whoo whoo whoo". He is young for potty training, I know, but a Mom can have a dream!

Blogging is Journaling?

Lately I have been getting into You Tube. Mostly for 2 videos from Sesame Street. Elmos song & Cookie Monster's C is for cookie. Payson asks for "Melmo" everytime he sees my laptop now. So, I recalled this morning that our Bishop mentioned in church the "mormon messages" that are now on you tube. This one by Elder Eyring was very inspiring:

I jumped up in search of my journal, vowing to write a little somethin' everyday from now on. But upon arrival of my journal's usual spot, I was shocked to find it missing! How long has it been since I last wrote? I can't even find it! My blog becomes a journal of the precious moments in my family I catch on camera, but even more important are the things I learn and see that strengthen my testimony daily. These are not the public blogging things, but the things that allow me to see God in my life daily and help me realize how truly blessed I am! So hears to blogging! And to keeping (finding...) a journal!

TRIATHLETE

I set a new years resolution/goal to do a triathlon, and Memorial day was it. Here in my very own Rancho Sahuarita I swam 1000 meters, pulled off my wetsuit, jumped into running shoes, threw on a helmet, and hopped on a VERY nice (borrowed) road bike for 16.6 miles, then jumped off, tossed the helmet, put on my bib# and ran for 5km. All in 1:41:54. I got 4th place for women in my age group. The swim was sooooo stressful (considering the last time I took swim lessons I flunked, and was probably 10 yrs old... what could I expect?). Swimming in a pool is much easier than a lake. But I borrowed my friend Joe's wetsuit and I floated! So I just had to figure out how to move forward. I was able to make up a lot of time on the bike & run. I thought I would be slow running, or at least it feels that way after going 18+mph on a bike, but I got pretty close to my best 5k time. What a thrill! Hopefully I will do one again someday. As for now, I am going to try to do a marathon while in Utah July 24th, and enjoy my 4 weeks of ballet nostalgia! I am taking an adult ballet class Tues/Thurs nights at the Ballet Tucson during their summer workshop. Maybe I will have to get picture of me on pointe shoes -it's been a while!

Happy Land

My friend Emily McGuire called Disneyland "Happy Land" on a post once, and I thought it was so cute and appropriate, that I am adopting it. We just returned from a week in LA where we went to China Town, Santa Monica Pier, LA Zoo, DisneyLand, LA Philharmonic @ the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood, and of course, had a blast at my sister Melinda's with her hubby Ryan, and 4 boys (David -7, James & Joseph -5, Mark -3).

One of the many mansions in Cali I wouldn't mind living in...

Payson saw these guys and started pumping his arms and saying "go, go" trying to move himself + stroller on his own I guess! He gave them hugs, and kicked and screamed when we told him to say "bye bye"

Oh - and he calls them both "Melmo" (Elmo) and then says "rough rough" (like he does for a dog), hmmmm, maybe he needs to start watching tv.... :)

Zoo favorites: Zebras, hippo, giraffes, gorillas, monkeys, & flamingos (actually saw them sleeping on one leg - so cool!).

What's Easter without an egg hunt and new Sunday clothes?

As is fashionable these days, we went "green"

Our neighbors the Quinns & Husteds shared an Easter brunch & egg hunt with us on Saturday. Super yummy & super funny!

We have been so blessed and are greatful everyday for the atonement and ressurection of Christ. We watch "The Lamb of God" each Easter to remind us. Also, we had a big ham with my Dad and the Gibson family. Not sure what pig bums have to do with ressurection, but tradition is tradition I guess.

Also, Payson has really been getting into the alphabet lately. He is always pointing at letters in pictures, on clothes & toys, etc; and then starts singing...

Cheese connoisseur

Have I mentioned that Payson is a cheese snob? He will not eat Kroger brand or Kraft cheese, it must be Tillamook. And he has always been this way! Not that I blame him, if I am going to eat cheese plain, I want the creamy, tasty & delightful Tillamook. There is also some nostalgia involved from my Sophmore year of college -getting home from dates on the weekends and discussing "boys" over cheese & crackers with my roomates (Aub-dog & sis Shar).

Payson loves to run up to doors and knock on them. Our neighbors got a surprise visit Sunday night when Payson ran up their driveway, knocked on the door (in his soft little fist pats that they somehow heared), and upon a door opening, ran into their living room and became glued to extreme fighting for 15 straight minutes (why do I even try kid movies?).

Payson, upon finding keys, runs to the front of the house saying "deys" and reaching as high as he can to unlock the doors -no doubt trying to escape, as inside is boring, and outside is ALWAYS exciting.

Although I do not like Payson to touch my laptop, ever. Of course I cave, and I decided to just let him have at it. The fisherprice website has games for infants -ABCs & Peek-a-boo - which are big winners. Every letter is "Eee" and every animal is a dog & says "ruff ruff" -so, so cute!

My cute husband had a dozen pink -gorgeous- roses waiting at home for me & a PI day welcome home mat & PIE!! Payson & I went to Portland to visit my sister Sharleen. Patrick is doing such a good job of being festive -even for the silly occasions like March 14th (aka 3.14). It's good to be home with my man again!!

Oh yeah, the shoes & the credit card were jokes, as I had already ordered the new running shoes which arrived in the mail while I was gone, and the credit card was just the new one that needed to be signed to replace our expiring one. Maybe next time he'll get me a credit card with some ridiculously large limit & send me to the mall... :)

Hiking up Madera Canyon to Bog's & Kent's "Springs"

Let's just say, that they were true to the desert, since you really have to search for the water...

Actually we climbed up to 6100 ft, which ascent happened to be all in the last 1/2 mile - Patrick may never go hiking with me again, or at least not straight uphill with Payson on his back. On the way down Payson fell asleep on my back and his head kept bouncing against my back! Who can sleep like that? The "family" picture is what happens when I try to be in the pictures, oh, and us not having showered and all sweaty from hiking. We were quite the treat that morning! We've decided that hiking is a great way to spend time together & outdoors. Walking, talking, beef jerky (which even Payson enjoyed), beautiful surroundings, aaahhhh, I just love it!

Payson tries to eat animal crackers with a pencil, not pictured is the attempt that actually worked! How much more satisfying food must taste when you've truly worked for it! He also found his way into the oven drawer, it was only a matter of time. And, the pot lid, well, that was actually Mommie. Oops! Free advice: don't burn a glass lid over flame, and then resume to use as normal, because, it wont function as normal and can't take a pot of boiling water, it will indeed shatter!

Payson found some keys in the "junk" drawer and ran to the front of the house to open the door! Later he tried to set the table while I was cooking in the kitchen. He did a pretty good job: place mat, fork, spoon, and bowl. It's hilarious when we find out how much more he understands and remembers, and his desire to do everything himself. If he can't reach it, he'll bring over is plastic $ store chair as an enabling device, the world gets bigger for him, and becomes more "over" for me!

Payson broke my beautiful lamp - luckily Kent Perry, who was playing with us that morning, wasn't in there at the time to get hurt. Payson will be sad to not be able to plug it in and step on the "on" button - he and the lamp had shared a lot of good times!

Payson at the park. He is seriously in love with basketballs & watching people play basketball! It's fun to hear him say bee-bee-bahl when he recognizes them in stores, on his walls, clothes, etc.

Kali Hoenes ruining a cute picture of Jenni & I... hee hee j/k Kalie. February Bunko was Jungle theme - ah, good times with the ladies!

We went to the driving range & Payson got to see what we really do with golf clubs. He practices regularly in the back yard -what a swing! He's also a great ball boy -I can hit the ball and he will run and bring it back to me, just to see me swing again! Awesome - I know this wont last forever.

Payson - aka mr. independent feeder - decides that he needs to hold the banana himself, he actually did a great job, until he needed the sides pulled down which resulted in the usual life & death scream...

And yes, he is holding his spoon in his left hand - Patrick has been trying to break him of that habit -good luck!

Payson tried to "clean" my cabinets with my fluffy pink socks! Thanks buddy!

Erica decides to learn how to caulk -there's definitely an art to it that I so have not mastered! Next job will look better...

Payson loves the laundry basket, and convinces Carter & Wyatt that it's fun to push him around in it. They loved his remote control Caterpillar - a toy his parents were more excited to get him than he is to play with it!

Snipets

Since I have a bazillion stories to tell from the last few months, I've chosen a "few" favorite pics and snipets.

Halloween: Lots of parties & lots of costumes for Payson. He loved staying outside late running around the neighborhood - Mom loved the candy.... I brought Payson to my ballet classes for their halloween parties. We also went to a pumpkin patch with a variety of family fun activities.

Day at GolfnStuff: super fun & cheap Raytheon sponsored date... with Payson... and Taylor Hoenes.

Utah trip: In November Payson & Erica flew to Utah to enjoy friends & family - so Patrick could work & do schoolwork, and nothing else. We went to BYU where Payson was a hit running through the crowds of students. We had creamery ice-cream and nostalgic moments in the Math Lab where I worked my way through school. I got to see old high school friends - 2 of which are pregnant -congrats MaryAnne & Sarah!! Payson was overloved by his adoring neices - but he did steal away to watch the Rumba (robot vacuum) whenever he got the chance.

Thanksgiving Day: 5k with my Dad & dinner w/ him & our neighbors Taylor, Kali, Kenzi, & baby Brooke Hoenes. We really are blessed with great friends, family, food, abundance, etc - we are content and happy!

2 days later, Payson went to the Perry's (thanks again!!) and Patrick & I took off to LA for a Mexican Riviera Cruise! We got to snorkel, kayak, zipline over agave cacti (although we declined the free tour of the agave tequilla factory), parasail, explore beaches, play random games & competitions on the boat, eat eat eat, go to musicals & comedy acts, enjoy fine dining & cuisine (Patrick was turned away from the dining room our first night -he was in shorts), had our beds turned down w/ chocolates on our pillows every night (don't ask me how I fit those in after million course meals & delectable desserts - I couldn't let them go to waste!), played settlers of catan & killer bunnies way too many times, and loved every minute of it! Cruises are a great bang for your vacation buck!

Christmas: Patrick got Paintball gear & Patrick got Christmas pjs & snow gear. Christmas day he got the biggest bonk yet -we literally watched the green bruise grow before our eyes!

Winter Blues: Not that it's too cold outside -it's actually been the best winter ever (highs in the 70s!!) -but Payson gets bored inside after exausting all his "toys"....

Patrick was combining computers last week. I like to ask him about them, but to be honest, I don't have the attention span for it. Patrick is great at explaining complicated things in laymans terms -afterall, if you can't explain it to a 5th grader, than you don't really understand it right? Anyhow, Payson was "helping" and completely fascinated. So maybe Payson will follow in Daddy's footsteps. Patrick always said while I was pregnant that he wanted a little person that he could teach and train, and to make the baby just like himself! So, he got a little boy who looks just like him, loves to talk all the time (also like Patrick :) and interested in how EVERYTHING works! Indeed Payson is our Mini-P.

Payson's Golden Birthday

Payson celebrated his 1st birthday and -it being October 1st- his golden birthday!! We sent out football invites, had football cake, took pictures as a football player and wore our new cougar football shirts. His baby guests weighed in for the team roster and played with inflatable footballs. Patrick & Erica showed off the new backyard "oasis" that finished justin time -and Payson received a blow-up pool & slide that will take up most of the grass space!

I love looking at the pictures I take -Is this how I imagined my life to be? Who knows? But I love it -every minute of it!! Well, maybe most minutes of it ;)

Patrick likes his toy Payson. It's all about reactions. Watching Payson is fascinating, especially after putting ice in his mouth -and then [not pictured] down his diaper!

Payson and Erica had fun on the trampoline at the Burns', while Patrick was glued to the BYU football game. Thanks to Tevo we watched it in record time too! Anytime you looked away, you missed a play. Payson did have time to try on one of the twins Spiderman outfits (why the cape?? -who knows!).

Some of us girleez in the ward are starting a bunko group. A simple "parlour" dice game, way too many yummy treats and snacks (I went home feeling like it was Thanksgiving...), no kids, and sooo much fun!! It's nice to get out and be immature and crazy and laugh a whole lot!

I ran an 8 mile race on Labor Day through Saguaro National Park. I was all pumped for a beautiful run through rolling, cactus filled hills. I knew the elevation change was tough... but I was ambitious about my goal time anyhow. So, sadly I didn't run it as fast as I wanted, but I did get 3rd in my age group -yea! - with a time of 1:05:15.

So just a few minutes before I was ready to take Kent home, with a very uneventful and successful morning babysitting, he did this to my carpet...

Any ideas for getting nail polish out of carpet anyone?? It seems that I learn how un-babyproof my home is everytime I have another child over!

I try to take pictures of Payson every few days catching him in one of his favorite acts. These are what I have from the last month or two.

Crawling, Jumping, Standing on the bed! One of the MOST exciting things to him! It's hilarious, but he tends to not understand the edge -as he comes close to it all the time giving Patrick & I mini heart attacks. He has fallen off, and doesn't land on his feet (no cat-like reflexes yet I guess), and does cry, and doesn't learn as he instantly wants back on.

Someone else's toys. The toys are "greener" in the other nurseries. This is a snap from Vesper Dalton's 3rd birthday party. She lives in NW Tucson, we get together with the Dalton's regularly. Favorite topics of conversation include the Stephanie Meyer books & politics (Andrea "the liberal" -gasp- vs Patrick) & DIY from Chad the handyman husband of the year.

Shower time any time. Water optional. Clothes optional. Scrubbing behind the ears optional.

After tediously pulling bag after bag out- Success! The cardboard box is empty and now can be scraped across the tile; back & forth, back & forth. Cool noise huh Mom?

If it has wheels... I LOVE IT!! The stroller (in or out) is one of Payson's favorite toys.

Lipstick anyone? This shade does nothing for my eyes.

Loves doing laundry? Attacking the laundry and trying to eat the smelly socks is more accurate.

Loves jumping to lights & music in his Jumparoo. (We like it because it makes him tired!)

A few months ago Payson really seemed like he was going to start crying. But he didn't really start until he hit 8 months. I loved watching him get into the push-up position! Then balancing on two arms and one leg, trying to figure out what to do with the other one hanging in the air.

Okay, so I spent an afternoon trying to figure out how to edit movies from our digital video camera. Turns out the software that came with it does very little unless you upgrade. So this is a terrible splicing job of some times that we tried to get Payson to crawl on camera. He is very good now (you see at the end) and loves to stand up too! Will he walk soon??? I can't wait. Actually, I love that he can crawl! He doesn't get into much "dangerous" stuff, and when he wants me, he just searches me out and comes to me! When he does spot me, he stops, smiles at me until I notice him and smile back, and then either continues toward me whining for a diaper change (or food or etc) or he just goes over to the nearst "point of interest" -usually something he can stand and "play" with. Who knew walls and beds and cupboards were so exciting?

Uncle Daniel and Grandma visit!! My youngest brother Daniel and my Mom took the scenic route to Southern Cali -by way of Tucson! Daniel is doing an internship at (the wrong) Raytheon in El Segundo. So my Mom drove with him to keep him company and meet some people from his mission. They didn't admit to it, but they were sad to go after a short day and a half. We love having visitors, so next time your in Arizona... :)

PAYSON

He is a growin' boy! And his favorite toys are cords and electronics! (Looks and acts just like Daddy!) Above is my Sansa usb port -a definite favorite as you can see. He also loves my blow dryer, and gets jealous when I am using it. As I write this he is attacking our modem -blinking lights -need I say more?

So, Payson does crazy things in his crib. Above, he squirmed his pants almost all the way off before falling asleep.
If he doesn't end up with his head jammed in a corner, he's on his face, got a blanket wrapped around his face only, or has his back completely arched! (Don't be fooled by how sweet he looks sleeping -although it gets us every time.)

Patrick put up ceiling fans -much needed in this climate -doesn't he look manly? Payson's room is a football field with sports wallpaper. Patrick's also very proud of how the painting turned out.

I'll bet you have no idea what this is. I had the great idea of cooking rice in the microwave (which can be done -just not with the pyrex bowl and lid I used it turns out). Then I decided I could walk down the street and it would be done when I got back. I could smell burning as I walked back to my house and thought, "how embarrasing, somebody really burned something bad!" Well, if you can tell in the pic, my microwave was yellowy-brown, the rice was charcoal, and the plastic lid had melted in. And boy did it smell! Even my purse sitting on the counter across the room smelled of smoke days later! I'm pretty sure that this was all somehow Payson's fault... my little scape goat for everything these days! :)

I ran an 11 mile trail run on Saturday. It was held in beautiful Catalina State Park (about 50 min drive). My running buddy Rhonda (#39) got first in her age group. I came in just under 8:38 min miles getting 2nd in mine. It was fun to run up and down the sandy paths, and to hop on rocks across streams! The hills were steep, especially the "92-stair climb" that I had to run up twice -my calves were so sore!

Today I planted seeds in our garden! Patrick has been spending the last few weeks putting together this automatic drip system. He has now officially proved his manhood and pride of home ownership! Actually, he has done a really good job, and is always anxious to work on it. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll have sprouts we can post.

I made a leprechaun cake for St. Patrick's day. After eating 3 pieces and realizing that Patrick wouldn't be helping, I sent him to the trash. Better than getting drunk for the holiday I guess. We did go to a neighbor's for some GREAT corned beef and cabbage though. (Sounds gross -tastes good)
Speaking of eating...

Payson is eating "solids" these days. (Well, whenever I need a good chuckle watching his confused and concerned face as he slowly gums whatever I put in his mouth.) He enjoys applesauce, oatmeal, peas, and bread. We got the eddie bauer edition of high chairs for him -only the best for our child... :) Okay, I just think it's really pretty and that it looks good with our dining table!The downside -or- out every side - of feeding Payson solids. Boy is he getting some new "business" "down there" -smelly and messy. This has been the biggest blowout yet. We're so proud.

We spent Easter at Dave & Jenni Johansen's. Jenni's mom Lynn made a clove ham just for Patrick. Desert was decorating cake easter eggs and bunnies. Jenni's were by far the best, so we told her she had to eat them all -she is 7 months pregnant afterall!

We played "the bean game" aka Bonanza, where I for the first time didn't lose by a landslide. It's a really fun game -I recommend it to all!

We had the pleasure of guests in our humble abode February and March. Quinn (Patrick's oldest bro) and Jessica Lewis, & 5 adorable kids were a tight squeeze.

Nothing like "camping" in the living room for kids! We loved having them here and getting to see their new 6 week old little girl! She's already starting to look as big as Payson! Poor Payson, just doesn't seem to chunk out like all his little buddies. We spent a lot of time enjoying the park nearby where there was basketball and Patrick's favorite: swing & jumping contests! Payson's cousins loved playing with him and his toys. Sometimes they were a little suffocating with their love! I taught the kids to be expert card players. Chandler and Ashlyn became great at "War" and the whole family enjoyed the gambling game of blackjack. (Not with stakes -don't worry!)

Early March we met my sis Sharleen (w/ husband Warren and 16 month old Issac) in Mesa at our cousin Nathan's. His wife Ila and 2 adorable girls are always fun to see when we head that way (mostly for temple trips). (I miss living 2 minutes from a temple as opposed to 2 hours!) Warren had "business" in Pheonix, but Sharleen and Issac spent the week with me in Tucson. Well, technically Sahuarita, the town I live in just south of Tucson. I enjoyed showing off my house, neighborhood, friends, and scary places to shop and drive in Tucson. (Sadly, those are the parts of Tucson I live closest to.) Issac is so big compared to Payson -and really gets us excited? for how active and opinionated a toddler can be! Mostly Issac was just afraid of me -I've always had that affect on boys... Of course we fit in a game of Settlers of Catan. Which, might I add, I haven't won in ages. Everyone says I'm the damsel in distress so noone notices me take over -but it's just begginers luck. Once I've played a few times, noone will ever see me take over again!

We've decided that Settler's is very unsettling. You get all worked up, and then all of sudden someone announces they've won, and it's over. All your plans and strategies mean nothing, the dice wont be rolled again. You were duped into thinking the game isn't based on luck once again! Alas! If anyone has any good board games to recommend, please tell. We're sick of ours. (Except Yahtzee -I'm amazing with those dice, much to Patrick's amazement and annoyance.)

Warren & Emily Smith met and married at BYU. Warren studied electrical engineering and got a job at Raytheon. They moved to Tucson summer of '06. Had a baby (Diana) in Oct. '08. Sound at all familiar? Little Diana is so sweet. Her and Payson are destined for eachother... :)

We went to the Desert Museum which is in West Tucson. The drive there is gorgeous with hills and valleys of saguaro cacti. And the sunsets as you leave are AMAZING. We love the sky here!

Patrick's met his goal in the trip -he saw a javelina. Gross black pig things that live in the desert. (Look like Pumba from Disney's "The Lion King") I hear they are pretty dangerous.

My running buddies tell me that they come across them as well as rattlesnakes as it gets

warmer. That's why you should always run with a light, buddy, and mace! One day I will actually take that advice.

1- The importance of being a BYU cougar!

Bleed blue through & through! BYU football allegiance is a must. Attending the University and meeting your wife in a singles ward are added bonuses.

2- Work, work, work -there is no satisfactory substitute.

Patrick digs into our "soil" (aka rock) for our future garden bed. Supposedly, we can grow vegetables here year round -although keeping plants alive has never been my specialty... :)

3- Mom's cooking is the BEST!

Eating while holding Payson is getting very exciting as Payson gets better at grabbing dishes and utensils. Good thing we have white carpet under our dining table to catch all the messes!

Payson is on to the bottle trick, he knows the difference between formula and the real deal. He is NOT a fan of the former.

4- Couch time comes after meal time.

The boys' favorite spot to digest and relax! Did Payson's button just pop undone?

5- Big boys don't cry -they giggle!

Payson is getting ticklish on his tummy, thighs, feet -he loves the attention!

Christmas in Utah

Erica resurrects her sewing skills! Back from an 11 year absence, I made christmas pants for the whole family. My 8th grade sewing teacher would be proud. (The pants I made then were the same size in front as back -so they always felt like they were on backwards.) Payson's struggled some. I didn't make enough room for his diaper so they kind of look like low riding bootleg pants -he's so stylish. :)

Ready to go caroling. The wintery storm outside was truly frightful -but no worries, Payson slept the whole time!

December is here and we have begun celebrating! Payson is way too cute in his Santa hat. He went caroling in it on Sunday. Patrick put up our "wee" tree.

We made "gingerbread" houses with good friends. Erica won the contest for best house -she is real good with candy!

Payson is starting to enjoy "tummy time" -he lasts about two minutes until he starts crying now. We really like getting him to smile. Sometimes he confuses smiling with sadness as he now will smile as he starts to cry. This is mom's fault for constantly trying to get him to smile because she thinks it's soooo cute!

Thankful for Thanksgiving!

We had a lovely Thanksgiving in Provo, Utah with all of Patrick's family. After the second annual turkey trot (well -for Jenna and I), we had a delicious meal that I didn't have to do any cooking for! Patrick's sisters did a great job! We spent the next day taking family pictures and glazing ceramics at Color Me Mine. Patrick made a "hunny" pot and I made a "you are special" plate. Saturday we went to the BYU vs Utah rivalry football game. Even Payson bleeds blue wearing his "Y" onesie. On Sunday Payson and his cousin Sterling were blessed. Payson was NOT very reverent and screamed the whole time. Hopefully this will not become a tradition in our family! It turns out Payson doesn't like being pulled out of his carseat in the middle of his sleep and getting hatted and held out in the middle of a circle of men. Either that, or he doesn't like his name! :)

The blogging begins

Patrick and I decided it was about time we started a blog so you can see our most recent pictures and read snipits of our exciting life whenever you want. October of 2007 was a very exciting month for us.

Payson Asher Lewis was born on the 1st, and we closed on our first home on the 24th.

We love our little boy. He was a chile pepper for Halloween -very appropriate for us down by the border in Tucson.

We love having a house with lots of space, in a great community and ward, and only 15 minutes from Patrick's work. He gets every other Friday off, and was able to go paintballing. He got quite dirty and had many welts. But would go again in a heartbeat.
